Abstract

This article as a literature study is to clarify Christian counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy for flashbacks of interpersonal traumatic memories. One of the specific phenomena of ‘post traumatic stress disorder’ is psychological repititional experience of traumatic events. A flashback reveals painful and tremendous memories. It is a kind of psychological illusion that manifests as a non-spontaneous and unconscious memory. The victim is able to sense the imagery of the flashbacks. Anyone who has experienced trauma may face flashbacks in his/her dreams and daily life. Flashbacks of traumatic memories negatively affects the quality of life. It is natural for somebody who had a traumatic experience to have flashbacks. It, however, is apt to become a psychological disorder such as mood disorder, anxiety, phobia, etc. including spiritual problems. Someone who has flashbacks experiences a decrease in quality of life. One of the effective therapeutic methods to treat flashbacks is cognitive behavioral therapy. Reframing as cognitive behavioral therapy is the best technique. Specifically, effective reframing transforms flashbacks and traumatic memories into positive ones. General cognitive behavioral therapy is not based on Christian counseling and psychotherapy. Christian counselors should apply this method in tandem with Christian principles. First, cognitive reframing and positive imagery as incompatible behavior reinforcement and reciprocal inhibition are very important for flashbacks treatment. Imprementing Immanuel therapy as positive imagery is a great technique and should be used as a therapeutic strategy. The use of Immanuel therapy in counseling is the application of Christian counseling methods of general cognitive behavioral therapy. Second, it is important that the client has psychological and cognitive flexibility between triggers and catalytic cues and flashbacks. Additionally, those who want to overcome traumatic memories, flashbacks and symptoms should avoid hypersensitivity to triggers and catalytic cues.
