Abstract

This paper first, thoroughly reviews both Trump administration's immigration policy orientation and the Republican party's immigration policy. After that, it analyzes U.S. immigration policy's impact on Asia-Pacific countries with special attention to India, China and South Korea. This paper first, claims that the immigration policy, especially that of the United States is not a policy of border control but a policy of economy, security, welfare, humanitarian, and education. Therefore, when one analyzes US immigration policy, it is necessary to look at comprehensive nature of immigration policy. This paper's second claim is that, although current US immigration policy targets the Middle East and the South America, the Asia-Pacific region is not immune from its influence. On the contrary, the Asia-Pacific region, especially, certain aspects of US immigration policy such as H1-B visa policy, Visa waiver programs, could influence India, China and South Korea more than other countries.
