Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to focus on the book "Literature Mission-Report on the Opening Ceremony of the Japanese Literary Society that protects the country Society" by Shim Yeon-soo, a poet of Jae-man, who was published three times in July 1942. The reason why this researcher chose "The Mission of Literature" as his research subject is that he believes that the problems exposed by previous literary researchers for Shim Yeon-soo will be overcome through new text analysis. "The Mission of Literature," written by Shim Yeon-soo while studying at a Japanese university, is very suggestive in that it clearly shows Japan's right-wing ideology, the nature of the Japanese Literary and Security Council, and, moreover, the distorted ideology of the Empire. In particular, this article is expected to provide the basis for a new discussion on Shim Yeon-soo's literary research in terms of three-dimensional views of the 1940s poets' historical and real perceptions. Accordingly, Chapter 2 was intended to discuss the value of text in "The Mission of Literature." The current level of Shim Yeon-soo's literary research is too biased toward certain regions and organizations to create a fair consensus. This is why this research focused first on Shim Yeon-soo's "The Mission of Literature." In this article, reasonable grounds for making a clear judgment on Shim's national consciousness and view of Japan are found everywhere, especially objective contents that clash head-on with the claims of prior researchers. Nevertheless, in the last 20 years, the "Mission of Literature" has never been dealt with among domestic researchers. Professor Masuo Omura, a Japanese scholar, is the only researcher who directly mentioned "The Mission of Literature" and tried to discuss it. But his paper misses important facts in several respects. This paper pointed out that Professor Omura's views did not reach an in-depth understanding, and that they showed a large degree of textual illusion, and raised a counterargument against it. Meanwhile, in Chapter 3, this paper looked at the identity of the Japanese Literary and Security Council. In the process, the researcher reaffirmed that the Literature and Security Council is a sub-organization of the Great Political Consultative Conference, which lies on the basis of Japanese right-wing ideas, and that it is a literary organization that systematically practices the Japanese imperialistic privatization policy and national ideology. It was also found to be closely linked to the Joseon Literary Society, a leading pro-Japanese literary organization. Thus, in the final stage, the paper tried to argue that Shim Yeon-su's "The Mission of Literature," published in the Maeil Shinbo in 1942, did not properly recognize the historical facts contained in the distorted governing ideology of the Japanese Empire, or that it did not secure the intensity of its perception of reality.
