L2 한국어 학습자의 종속절 산출과 통사적 복합도

본 연구는 한국어 학습자 문어 산출의 통사적 복잡성 판정 기준을 찾기 위해 수행되었다. 총 90명의 학습자들을 대상으로 2년 간에 걸쳐 누적된 숙달도 자료를 사용하여 측정 자료의 신뢰타당성을 매우 높였다. 그 중 45명의 학습자들을 대상으로 문어 산출 과제가 진행되었다. 산출된 과제는 전사 및 분석 과정을 거쳤으며 종속절은 그 용법과 구조에 따라 세분화하여 분석되었다. 학습자들의 종속절 산출과 숙달도 간의 상관관계를 알아본 결과 크게 세 가지의 결과가 드러났다. 첫째, 부사절이 가장 높은 상관성을 보였다. 둘째, 관계절은 주절과 통사적 결속을 하는 경우에만 상관성이 나타났다. 셋째, 단일 서술어로 이루어진 절은 용법에 관계없이 학습자의 숙달도와 상관성을 보이지 않았다. 본 연구를 통해 기존의 이론적 종속절 논의와 실제 학습자의 숙달도를 반영하는 종속절의 형태에 차이가 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 관련 연구의 확대를 통해 한국어 학습자의 통사적 발달을 설명할 수 있는 종속절 판정 기준을 새로이 제시할 필요가 있다고 판단된다.
Abstract
This research seeks to find a criterion for judging the complexity of written production by learners of Korean. The participants were 90 learners of Korean studying abroad in Korea. Their linguistic achievements were calculated by maximum 2 years of test records, and they took a written production task. The three main findings are (1) that adverbial clauses showed the strongest correlation with achievement level, (2) that adjective clauses showed a correlation only when they are syntactically bound to main clause, and (3) that clauses consisting of a single predicate showed no correlation for both adverbial and adjective clauses. The findings show that only certain types of subordinate clauses have a correlation with learners’ proficiency. We will have to conduct in-depth research to evaluate learners’ complexity more properly.
