Abstract
This paper is on the anlysis of the text 「Sokbosangjol 6」 of the 15th century literary materials and the original Chinese text 「Sokabo」 which has the similar contents with the former. Besides it focuses on `the narrators(text producers)` of the text. 「Sokbosangjol 6」 is composed of several separable narrations but this paper is written only about 「The Narration of Brahman Kashapa」 to investigate one text intensively. I attempted to show the narrator of 「Sokbosangjol」 in the 「The Narration of Brahman Kashapa」 comparing with 「Sokabo」 and study the differences of the expressions and the contents. The summary is as follows; First, 「The Narration of Kashapa」is relatively short narrative made up of seven topics and four topic paragraphs. Second, the contents of 「Sokbosangjol」 are omitted in many parts because 「Sokbosangjol」 is the narration focused on `Shakamuni`s biography`, even on the assumption that 「The Narration of Kashapa」is given little weight. In the last topic 7, however, the narrator added the contents which were not involved in 「Sokabo」. Third, coherence of the text is expressed by the means of `namings`, `substitutes`, and `omissions` which indicate `Buddha` and `Kashapa`. Fourth, narrative verbs and honorifics present that the narrator is on the surface of the contents. Narrators inform the readers of the fact that listeners and speakers exchange the information of the topic. In this narration, not using -si -, nilodae is used in the cases of `omissions` which indicate `Buddha` and -si-, is expressed consistently. As mentioned above, this paper analyzed unclearness of sentence boundaries and inconsistencies of honorifics by adopting text grammar from the narrator`s point of view. Nonetheless this study requires more detailed criteria and systems. This paper is the study of exclusive usages resulted from the existing thought that the characteristics of middle Korean are not so different from those of modern Korean, corresponding with the characteristics of middle Korean. Grammar should reflect the language of that times. I consider that it is time of study a language reflecting the times, by reviewing microscopic point of view and established grammar which is not enough to explain middle and modern languages.
