Some Problematic Issues on the Treatment of Verb Entries in Korean Paper Dictionaries

Abstract
In this paper, we present some problematic issues on the treatment of existing Korean dictionaries and introduce the lexical database constructed for the electronic lexicon of Korean verbs DECOS-V. There are two types in these problematic verb entries: first, we come across some verb classes that should be completed in a systematic and exhaustive way such as verbs derived from onomatopoeia, verbs of 'X-etteulida/ejida' forms, and verbs of causative/passive forms; second, there are some verbs that should be treated in a lexicon of complex forms (i.e. DECOC) such as 'N-hada/doida' and '(V+ADJ)-Sfx-V' sequences, and some archaic or dialect items and frozen expressions that should constitute a special database. The electronic lexicon of korean verbs DECOS-V based upon this study contains about 13,160 items and the sub-classes of this lexicon are briefly described.
