Abstract
There are two kinds of plural markers in Korean: one attached to nominals and the other attached to non-nominals. I call them direct plural marker and indirect plural marker respectively. I treat distribu- tivity as a basic semantic characteristic of both plural markers which are identically realized as tul. Both markers represent distributivity of those elements to which they are attached and furthermore those events to which they belong. If it is assumed that distributivity and collectivity are exclusive to each other, we would meet lots of counterexamples to distributivity of tul because collective predicates and expressions with tul are found in the same clause. However, collective predicates for activity and accomplishment, collective predicates with reciprocals, and collective predicates accompanied by an adverb such as together or at once are proved to retain distributivity as their semantic property and to cooccur with an expression with tul. Therefore, the sentences which contain one of those collective predicates and an expression with tul simultaneously are no longer counterexamples to distributivity of tul. Finally, the behaviors of tul comply well with the theoretical frames which combine Plurality Theory and Neo-Davidsonian Theory of Events.
