[원인]을 나타내는 연결어미에 대한 통시적 고찰― <노걸대언해>류를 중심으로 ―

Abstract

This paper is concerned with investigating the transition of [Reason] connectives reflected in the colloquially translated texts of <Nokelttay Enhay> type in each period from the 16th throughout the 20th century based on the original version of <Nokelttay>. In the 16th century {-uni} and {-e} were mainly used as [Reason] connectives. In the 17-18th century the {-esye} became more frequently used, while {-kiey} and {-kilo} were newly emerging. Such connectives as {-unisko, -nulakwo, -kilnoy} appeared in the 19th century. {-unisko>-unikka} and {-kilnoy>-killay} have become independent connectives after going through the divergence process from {-uni} and {-kiey}, respectively. The transition process of [Reason] connectives thus show the grammaticalization phenomena of subjectification, specification, divergence, and layering.
