초록

연구목적 소아청소년의 비만은 신체적, 정신사회적 건강 저하를 일으키는 주요한 요인이다. 정신사회적인 면에서는, 부정적인 자아인식, 신체상의 왜곡 및 또래 관계에서의 어려움 등을 야기시킨다. 본 연구는 비만 청소년에서 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 요인을 밝히기 위하여 지역사회 중학생들을 대상으로 성별에 따라 체질량지수, 주관적인 비만인식, 부모의 자녀 체격에 대한 비만인식 및 걱정과 자아존중감의 관계를 파악하고, 자아존중감에 영향을 주는 요인으로는 어떤 것이 있는지 알아보기 위하여 시행되었다. 방 법 서울 시내 소재의 중학교 1, 2학년 47명을 대상으로 체질량지수를 측정하였고, 주관적인 비만인식과 희망체격, 우울과 자아존중감은 자가 보고 설문지를 통해 측정하였다. 이 자료들을 분석하여 성별에 따른 주관적 비만인식, 희망 체격의 차이를 알아보았고, 과소체중, 정상체중, 비만위험 및 비만군 간의 주관적인 비만인식과 희망 체격, 자아존중감 차이는 일원변량분석(ANOVA)을 통하여 살펴보았다. 자아존중감에 중요한 영향을 미치는 요인을 확인하기 위하여 단계식 다중 회귀분석을 실시하였다.

Abstract

Objectives：Obesity is associated with a range of adverse health impacts on physical and psychosocial aspects. Psychosocial effects may include body image disturbance, negative self-perception and peer problem. We investigated the association between self perception of body image, real body mass index (BMI), and self-esteem in middle school students and explored factors that most attribute to self-esteem. Methods：We randomly selected 477 middle school students ot 13 to15 years old. Informations on weight, height and BMI were colleted. Subjective perception of body image, wished body image, depression scales and self-esteem scales were checked by the participants. Subjects were divided into three groups according to their BMI values. Underweight, normal-weight and overweight groups were identified and compared with demographic data and several scales. Results：Mean BMI of participants was within the normal range. Male students perceived their body images to be underweight, but female students perceived their body image to be overweight (χ2=15.140, p=0.010). Wished body images were in counter directions. Male students wanted to gain weight, but female students wanted to lose weight (χ2=39.432, p<0.001). In male students, overweight group had lower scores in total self-esteem, athletic competence and physical appearance than normal weight and underweight groups. In female students, overweight group had lower scores in physical appearance than normal weight and underweight groups. Self perception of body image was the most important factor in their total, athletic competence and physical appearance self-esteem. Conclusion：The self-esteem of early adolescents attributed to the self perception of body image and not by BMI or parent’s perception of their child’s body image.
