본 연구의 목적은 초등 교사로서의 상황적 조건들이 무엇이며 이러한 조건 속에서 초등 교사들이 어떠한 수업 형태를 자주 보여주는지 이해하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 초등학교 사회 교과를 중심으로 두 교사를 대상으로 한 해석학적 사례 연구(interpretive case study)를 수행하였다. 3학년 이상의 학년을 맡는 초등학교 교사들이라면 원칙적으로 1주일에 10개 교과와 30시간 안팎의 수업을 하게 된다. 초등 교사의 교실 수업은 수업의 일회성을 특징으로 한다는 점에서 중등 교사의 교실 수업과 구별된다. 이것은 수업의 반복적 재현을 어렵게 함으로써 수업에 대한 반성적 구조화를 어렵게 한다. 초등 교사는 수업 이외에도 담임 교사로서 수업과 직간접적으로 연관된 교육활동과 각종 업무를 동시에 처리해야 한다. 이러한 상황적 조건 속에서 두 교사는 특정한 수업 형태를 자주 보여 주었다. 본 연구는 초등 교사의 상황적 조건 속에서 두 교사의 수업 형태가 갖는 문제점을 논의하고 초등 학교 교실 수업 개선을 위한 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the situational conditions under which elementary teachers are and their teaching patterns under the conditions. I conducted an interpretive case study including two elementary teachers. I made efforts to understand which situational conditions elementary teachers are. I observed social studies classes of two elementary teachers in charge of 6th grade. The two elementary teachers teach 10 subject matters for 32 class periods in a week and also conduct the tasks related to teaching or non-teaching. Under those situational conditions, the two teachers continued some special teaching patterns of social studies. This study makes some suggestions to improve elementary teachers in their teachings
