국내사인(Sign)의 경우 지역적 특성이나 도시경관 및 건물과의 조화는 전혀 고려하지 않은 채 디자인 되어 있는 경우가 대부분이다. 우리나라의 사인은 무질서한 난립과 무개성의 상업용 인지요소로서 무대책의 광고 강박증을 단적으로 보여주고 있다. 이에 따라 국내 사인디자인과 선진 외국 사인디자인의 차이점을 알아보고, 국내 사인디자인의 문제점 및 공간디자인에서의 사인 개선방향에 대해 알아보았다. 최근 우리나라에서도 선진국의 우수한 성공 사례들에 대한 영향으로 환경디자인 및 공공디자인이 크게 이슈화 되어가고 있어 여간 다행한 일이 아니다. 관련 정부부처에서도 다소 늦은 감이 있지만 도시 건축물의 사인 재정비 작업과 함께 옥외광고물을 규제하고자 건축 허가 시 옥외광고물에 대한 조건을 두고 광고물 게시시설을 미리 설치하도록 조례를 제정하여 각 지역의 특성에 맞는 사인디자인 가이드라인을 제시, 옥외광고물 특정구역 지정 및 표시제한을 통해 광고물을 집중 관리할 계획이다. 사인디자인 가이드라인을 만들 때 가장 중요한 것은 ‘이 지역이 가지고 있는 특징이 무엇인가?’하는 점일 것이다. 지역의 특성을 제대로 반영하지 않은 채 계획되는 디자인 가이드라인은 반드시 재고(再考) 해야할 것이다. 시각전달기호의 특성을 고려하여 기호의 디자인을 모색하여야 하며 부착방법, 크기, 방향, 재질 등도 아울러 디자인 하여야 한다.
Abstract
This study plans to examine both the differences between domestic and international sign design and also areas in domestic sign design that need to be further developed. Domestically there are many instances of sign design with no consideration whatsoever given to the local area or the surrounding buildings. This study demonstrates the disorderly rush for signing, the strategic importance of front-window signage and signing obsession within Korea. These days environmental and public design are becoming an issue in Korea. Therefore in order to regulate individual billboard signage with respect to signing expense trends, ordinances are needed to set guidelines for signing before construction permission is granted. These include the citation of appropriate signing for the area, the specifically designated area for signing and also limits on markings. When setting sign design guidelines more than anything else it is most important to ask, What is the distinguishing characteristic of this area? There is a definite need to improve design guidelines that do not reflect the special characteristics of the local area.
