Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of visual styles in package design on consumer identity formation and emotional responses, focusing on 팝 마트(POP MART), a leading brand in the Chinese hip toy market. By examining the top five best-selling IP series in 2024 (Molly, THE MONSTERS, Skullpanda, Dimoo, and Hirono), the study integrates visual expression elements with consumer preference data. The findings reveal that Generation Z consumers aged 18 to 35, the primary consumer base, are highly responsive to designs emphasizing individuality and rarity, exhibiting strong brand loyalty. Notably, hidden editions and collaboration designs serve as key factors in enhancing consumers’ desire for collection and their sense of cultural affiliation. (POP MART)’s package design functions as a multifaceted visual medium that goes beyond mere product packaging to facilitate emotional projection and community engagement. Theoretically, this study incorporates visual grammar, semiotics, and emotional design theories to propose a three-stage design strategy—sign construction, emotional projection, and community internalization—thereby expanding the applicability of consumer identity theory within the context of visual communication. The study offers both theoretical foundations and practical implications for refining the visual strategies and marketing practices of hip toy brands.
