Abstract
With the rapid advancement of digital environments and the growing emphasis on emotional consumption, brand collaboration packaging design has emerged as a crucial channel linking consumer emotions and brand equity. This study aims to empirically examine the influence mechanisms through which visual elements and core intellectual property (IP) factors impact consumers’ purchase intentions, mediated by emotional perception. Netflix’s original series Squid Game was selected as the representative IP, with six collaborative packaging design cases analyzed. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative analyses, 204 valid responses from consumers aged 20 to 31 were collected and examined. The study identified four critical visual elements—brand identity, color cognition, visual expressiveness, and visual composition—and integrated these with core IP elements to construct a comprehensive research model. The results demonstrate that emotional perception partially mediates the relationship between visual stimuli and purchase intention, with color cognition and visual expressiveness notably eliciting emotional resonance. Furthermore, core IP elements positively influence consumers’ psychological identification and brand-related emotional attachment. The findings also emphasize that effectively embedding cultural narratives and visual symbolic systems into packaging design not only enhances product recognition but also reinforces consumers’ identity perception and sense of belonging. This research contributes to expanding the theoretical framework on the interplay between visual design and emotional perception, offering practical implications for brands aiming to develop packaging strategies that resonate emotionally with consumers. Future studies are encouraged to incorporate more diverse demographic and cultural contexts to further elucidate the variability of visual narrative strategies across consumer segments.
