Abstract
Recently, immersive exhibitions have emerged as strategic branding tools that transcend mere information delivery. By utilizing advanced technologies such as virtual reality(VR), augmented reality(AR), and projection mapping, these exhibitions stimulate visitors’ sensory and emotional responses, thereby offering immersive experiences that enhance brand experience and engagement. This study aims to empirically examine how differences in audience perceptions of four characteristics of immersive exhibitions, namely story, space, technology, and interactivity, affect brand equity. The study is grounded in David A. Aaker’s brand equity theory, which includes brand awareness, brand associations, brand loyalty, and perceived quality. A total of 336 participants were surveyed across three representative immersive exhibitions: Arte Museum, Bunker des Lumières, and teamLab Borderless. The survey comprised 21 items assessing exhibition characteristics and 13 items evaluating brand equity. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post-hoc test. The results indicated that Arte Museum enhanced brand awareness and perceived quality, while teamLab Borderless fostered brand loyalty through its interaction-centered design. Brand equity evaluations significantly differed across types of immersive exhibitions, reflecting variations in exhibition design approaches. This study empirically demonstrated that the components of immersive exhibitions influence brand experience and contribute to the formation of brand equity. These findings suggest that immersive exhibitions can serve as effective strategies for brand differentiation and offer both practical and theoretical implications for future content planning and branding strategy development.
