Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the perceptions of friendship faced by children diagnosed With Asperger syndrome. This research aimed to examine their children’s friendship features and the influential factors on building and maintaining their friendship. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 students with Asperger syndrome in elementary schools. Data were collected through the use of semi structured interviews. From the qualitative analysis of the interview transcriptions, five themes emerged as follows: (a) concepts regarding friendships, (b) characteristics of Asperger syndrome, (c) friendship features, (d) influential factors on friendships, (e) desire for friendship. Based on the findings, further implications were provided in order to understand the perceptions of friendship in children with Asperger syndrome.
