Abstract

This study tried to examine the path of information seeking by applying the RISP model to the negative emotion of a new infectious disease called Corona 19. In addition, we examined the moderating effect of whether group characteristics such as political orientation, government support, and trusted information channels. As a result of the analysis, first, among the negative emotions, irritability and anger, excluding anxiety and helplessness, were found to have an effect on information insufficiency(+). In particular, irritation or anger, which are somewhat stronger emotions than anxiety or helplessness, had a direct effect on the evaluation of current information, with anger having the strongest effect. Second, we found a negative effect of information insufficiency on information seeking. In a departure from existing theory, the relationship between information insufficiency and information seeking was found to be statistically significant but rejected as an negative correlation. Third, there was a moderating effect according to the information-ability. In the group with high information-ability, information insufficiency increased information-seeking, and in the group with low information-ability, information insufficiency had a negative effect on information seeking. Fourth, as a result of multi-group analysis according to political orientation/government support/trusted information channels, there was no moderating effect of the group. This study can apply and test by applying the Corona 19 situation by applying RISP. It applied and expanded existing theories by analyzing multi-group analyzes which are used as main variables influencing risk perception in risk communication. In addition, it is expected that the results of this study, which identifies how to find information about risk and how to manage it, will contribute in practice to providing insight into how to develop risk policies in the future.
