지난 호에 실린 허성우의 ‘포스트 발전국가론과 여성주의적 개입’은 필자의 『동원된 근대화』 책에 대한 여성주의적 비판과 확장지점을 논하는 글이다. 이 글은 두분으로 나뉘어지는데, 첫째는 허성우의 비판을 보다 일반적으로 재설정하여, ‘시민사회 개념의 비(非)서구중심적인 탈식민주의적 재전유는 불가능한가’를 논한다. 둘째는 이를 기초로 하면서 몇가지 지점에서 허성우의 비판을 수용하면서도 동시에 필자의 시각에서 ‘오독’지점과 잘못된 비판이라고 생각되는 지점들을 지적한다. 먼저 필자는 시민사회 개념에 대해서 ‘과잉보편주의’적 인식과 ‘과잉특수주의’적 인식이 있음을 지적하면서, 시민사회의 합리적 핵심과 그것의 급진적 확장과 해체적 극복의 지점을 지적하였다. 허성우가 ‘국가-사회 내장성 테제’를 통해 주장하는 것이 ‘시민사회의 보수성’이라고 보고, 그람시의 프레임에 기초한 필자의 논의 속에서 이미 그런 점이 상당 부분 내재한다는 점을 주장하였다. 나아가 포스트발전국가론과 관련하여, 현단계 국가를 둘러싼 모든 사회과학적 논의들을 다 포스트발전국가론으로 포괄하여 그 내부의 다양한 분화와 차이들을 고려하는 점, 나아가 포스트발전국가론적 논의 내에서의 사실적 차원과 규범적 차원을 혼동하고 있다고 비판하였다. 다음으로 기본적으로 박정희 시대 연구서인 필자의 『동원된 근대화』 책을 탈(脫)역사화해서 (포스트)발전국가 일반론의 텍스트로 사용하는 것은 ‘오독(誤讀)’이라는 점을 주장하였다. 나아가, 여성주의적 시각이 여러 측면에서 취약하고 결여되어 있다고 하는 비판에 대해서는 그 부족함을 인정하였다. 그러나 필자는―여성노동자의 착취와 산업전사로의 동원을 주요기제로 하는―개발독재의 반민중성과 반(反)소수자성을 드러내고자 하는 필자의 노력은 여성주의적 분석과 많은 부분 공통의 지반을 가지고 있다는 점을 지적하였다. ‘헤게모니 균열’이라는 필자의 문제설정은 가부장적 헤게모니와 개발독재국가의 결합, 그 균열 및 여성의 정치적 주체화를 설명할 수 있는 중요한 여성주의적 개념일 수 있다는 점을 주장하였다.
Abstract
In the last issue, Hur Songwoo criticized my book, titled ‘Mobilized Modernization’, in her paper, ‘A Feminist Intervention into the Post-Developmental State Theory, and suggested how to supplement it. This paper as a rejoinder is divided into two parts. The first part tries to reframe her critique to a general issue, that is ‘whether it is possible to re-appropriate the civil society concept from a kind of ’de-colonial’ perspective’, and suggest my argument on it. The second one suggests some points of wrong reading of my book and wrong critique, accepting some points of critique in the affirmative way. Concerning the first discussion, I suggested ‘over-universalistic view’ and over-particularistic one of the civil society, and alternative task for radical extension of rational core of the civil society and ‘de-constructivist’ way of it. In addition to it, I criticized her in that she is defining different discussions with different empirical focuses and different normative orientations, like anti-neoliberal or pro-neoliberal one, as one homogeneous ‘post/developmental state’ theory. In addition, I admitted that my discussion is limited and should be enriched in that it has not fully incorporated the feminist challenge. However, I argued that my new framework of ‘disintegration of hegemony’ could be a feminist one, in that it tries explain such phenomena as combination of the patriarchal hegemony and the developmental state, its disintegration, self-empowered subjectification of women in the process.
