본 연구는 가정폭력피해여성의 모성경험에 대해 12명의 가정폭력피해여성을 심층 면접한 자료를 현상학적 연구방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 가정폭력피해여성의 모성경험은 ‘책임을 다하면서 자녀와의 관계를 유지하며 삶을 이어감’으로 나타났다. 탈 폭력과정 중에 다양한 삶의 단절을 경험한 가정폭력피해여성은 자신에게주어진 책임 수행과 자녀와의 관계유지 속에서 삶을 이어가고 있었다. 폭력과 모성수행이 중첩된 상황에서 지속적으로 자녀를 보호하려는 시도를 하고, 자녀양육에 몰입하여 스스로 모성을 강화하고, 정상성을 유지하기 위한 노력을 통하여 지속적으로책임을 수행하고, 자녀와 서로 이해하고 도움을 주고받으면서 지속적으로 관계를 유지함으로써 삶을 이어갔다. 본 연구는 가정폭력과 모성이 교차하는 지점에서 가정폭력피해여성이 모성경험을 의미화하는 방식을 통해 피해여성의 모성경험이 어떻게구성되는지 밝히고, 가정폭력피해여성의 행위성에 대해 논하였다. 본 연구는 가정폭력상황에서 자녀와의 관계를 유지하고 삶을 이어가는 가정폭력피해여성의 다양한행위 및 생존전략을 보여줌으로써 가정폭력피해여성의 행위성을 가시화하고 가정폭력피해여성의 모성 및 행위성에 대한 논의를 확장하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore mothering experiences of battered women inthe context of domestic violence. In-depth interviews with twelve batteredwomen who mothered at least one child when they lived with the violencewere conducted. Giorgi phenomenology method was adopted for the analysis ofthe battered women’s narrative on their mothering experiences. Motheringexperiences of battered women can be explained as ‘keep their lives going onas taking care of responsibilities and maintaining relationships with children’:Responsibilities include protecting children from violence, conducting intensivemothering, taking (back) normality, and restoring the relationships with theirchildren. This study is worth exploring the construction of mothering in thecontext of domestic violence and battered women’s agency through mothering.
