노동경력과 가족경로 분석을 통해 본 청년기 연장(long youth)의 젠더 차이

이 연구는 ‘위기에 처한 청년’ 담론이 가진 남성중심성과 ‘독립’ 혹은 결혼 정상성의 규범성을 비판하기 위한 목적에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 선험적 가정을 전제하지 않는 발견적 접근을 취하는 배열분석을 방법론적 전략으로 채택하였다. 구체적으로 노동패널 17개년 자료를 이용하여 청년층의 거주형태 배열분석을 중심으로 개인의 일대기적 선택과 기획에 가족이 접합되어 있는 정도와 방식, 그리고 그것의 성별차이를 분석하였다. 2,30대 청년기를 결혼 바깥에서 통과하는 청년들의 규모는 남성은 63.9%, 여성은45.9%로 상당한 수준이나 이러한 탈근대적 청년기 경로가 경제적 강제인 점은 남성보다 여성에게 더 분명하게 나타났다. 또한 탈근대적 청년기 경로 중 부모와 장기간동거하는 ‘가족주의적 청년기 연장형’의 경우, 남성은 일방적 의존이 아니라 기존의가족주의와는 다른 대안적 관계성이 구성될만한 유형이 존재하였으나 여성은 부모에의 의존이 지배적이었다. 이는 청년 여성 대부분이 저임금 노동이나 시장배제로수렴되는 상황과 밀접히 연관된다. 결국 결혼이 부모에의 의존으로 대체되면서 여성에게 탈근대적 청년기 연장은 결혼 중심, 남성 중심의 삶에 균열을 내는 지속가능한생애모델이기보다는 결혼 중심 생애모델의 일시적 유예에 머물 가능성이 크다. 이상의 결과는 여성의 자율성 실현이 결혼 이외 다양한 선택지에 대한 사회적 인정체계의 확립을 요구한다는 것을 보여준다. 여성의 사회경제적 지위 향상을 위한 제도적조치와 함께 불안정한 생애전망에도 불구하고 자율성을 실현할 수 있는 개인 단위의사회정책, 로맨스를 벗어난 관계모델의 구축이 이루어져야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to contribute to the dismantling of male-centrality and normality for independence or marriage of the discourse ‘Youth in crisis’. To this end, I used Korean labor and Income Panel Study and analyzed gender difference of career trajectory and family pathway, which is focused on articulation of family and individual biographical project. First, the size of post-modernity youth pathway type, which they did not marriage and living together with parents or alone during aged from 20 to 39, accounted for a considerable part to 63.9% of men and 45.9% of women. But It was more apparent to women than men that post-modernity pathway was resulted by economic crisis. Second, for men, some of ‘long youth in familism’ types among post-modernity pathway, could have been interpreted as an alternative relationship not unilateral dependence. However for women, the types were dominated by unilateral dependence. This is closely linked to situation in which most young women converge on low-wage labor and market exclusion. It can conclude that young women’s dependence on parents is to be replaced by marriage, So post-modernity youth pathway is more likely to be a transitory suspension of the marriage-centered life model than to the sustainable life model that breaks the male-centrality and normality for marriage.
