여성의 성적 자유와 슬럿 범주 사이의 긴장 관계에 대한 연구: 20대 여성들의 경험과 인식을 중심으로

본 연구는 여성의 성적 주체성을 강조하는 문화와 가부장적 성적 이중규범이 공존하는 시대에 여성들이 성적 자유와 슬럿 범주 사이의 긴장에 어떻게 대응하고 있는지를 20대 여성들의 경험과 인식을 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성의 성적 이분화와 ‘슬럿’ 범주에 대한 낙인과 폭력의 구조적 문제가 여전히 작동되고 있는 현실 속에서 여성의 성적 자유와 개방성의 실천은 슬럿 범주로 미끄러질 수 있는 문제에 봉착할 수밖에 없다. 그리고 ‘슬럿과의 거리두기 수행’이라는 전략은 성적 자유와 안전을 함께 가져갈 수 있는 방법으로 채택된다. 이 과정에서 규범적 성적 실천을 벗어난 여성의 성적 실천은 성적 이중규범을 균열시키면서 동시에 재포섭되는 복합적인 효과를 지니고 있다. 둘째, 여성의 성적 측면을 자원화하는 것에 대한 여성들의 평가는 기존의 ‘슬럿’ 범주에 대한 재의미화보다는 여성이 가진 역량을 중심으로 ‘슬럿’과 ‘주체적 성적 욕망을 지닌 여성’으로 이분화되는 경향을 보인다. 슬럿 범주에 대한 가부장적 혐오와 배제는 능력주의를 경유하여 재강화되고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 여성의 성적 주체와 선택, 자율성, 능력이 강조되면서 젠더화된 성적 이중규범이 초래하는 위험이 여전한 사회적 조건 속에서 ‘슬럿’에 대한 거리두기와 배제는 ‘여성’의 자유와 안전, 사회적 지위를 확보해 주기 위한 전략으로써 작동되며 재생산되고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 점은 오늘날 여성의 성적 주체에 대한 강조와 가부장적 규범 사이의 긴장 관계가 슬럿이라는 범주를 여성 범주에서 배제하고 구별지음으로써 임시적으로 봉합되고 있음을 보여준다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This study investigates how women negotiate the tension between sexual suBJectivity and patriarchal double standards through the category of “slut.” Despite discourses of autonomy, the stigma and violence associated with this label persist, rendering sexual freedom inherently risky. To safeguard both freedom and security, women adopt a strategy of “distancing from the slut,” which simultaneously disrupts and reinforces patriarchal norms. Evaluations of women’s sexuality remain polarized between “whore” and “a woman with autonomous desire,” with contempt for “whores” situated at the intersection of meritocratic disdain for the socially vulnerable and patriarchal stigma. Thus, while women’s agency and choice are emphasized, gendered double standards continue to structure risk. Distancing from the “slut” enables women to maintain freedom, safety, and social legitimacy but also reproduces hierarchical boundaries. The study reveals that the cultural valorization of women’s sexual suBJectivity is provisionally reconciled with patriarchal norms through the exclusion of the “slut” from the category of “women.”
