남녀 대학생 성 각본의 질적 분석: 이중기준의 유지와 균열

이 연구는 한국 남녀 대학생의 성 각본을 질적 분석하여 성 이중기준이 어떻게 유지 또는 균열되는지를 탐색하였다. 선행 연구들은 성 이중기준을 남자의 쾌락지향성과 여자의 관계지향성이 사회적으로 강제되는 과정으로 정의하며, 이런 이중기준은 성 각본에 있어 규범, 대인, 개인의 세 수준에서 균열할 수 있다고 설명한다. 수집된 에세이를 통해 성 각본을 해석한 결과 다섯 개의 주제어를 도출하였는데, 우선 ‘성 이중기준의 만연’은 여성 억압의 미시기제가 지체되고 고착되어 남녀에게 이분법적으로 적용되는 한국의 현실을 설명한다. ‘불만족하고 무기력한 남자의 성’은 남성 우월체제의 자가당착적 대가로서, 쾌락 지향적 성에 대한 남자의 회의를 묘사하고, ‘쾌락과 폭력의 대상으로서의 여자의 성’은 여성 억압 기제에 대한 여자의 두려움과 좌절을 그려낸다. 남녀 각각의 소수 사례인 ‘관계 지향적이지만 모순적인 남자의 성’과 ‘적극적이지만 관계지향적인 여자의 성’은 비록 미약하기는 하지만 성 이중기준의 균열을 드러내어, 보다 양성평등적인 사회를 향한 조망을 가능케 한다.

Abstract

This study inquired how Korean college students' sexual double standards are maintained or cracked, through a qualitative analysis of their sexual scripts. Previous studies define the sexual double standard as a socially forced process of recreational sex for men and relational sex for women, and explains it could be cracked among sexual script levels of socio-cultural, interactional, and individual. Interpreting the collected sexual script essays yielded five key topics. 'Prevalence of sexual double standard' describes the dichotomous assignment for each gender, which shows the fixed micro mechanism of oppression against women in Korea. 'Dissatisfied and trapped sexuality for men' reveals the contradictory payback of male chauvinism as men doubt the recreational sex, while 'sexuality for women as an object of pleasure and violence' pictures women’s dread and frustration for the micro oppression against them. A few cases for each gender, however, summed up as 'relational but contradictory sexuality for men', and 'avid but relational sexuality for women', betray the crack, albeit weak, of double standards, and thus invigorate, although at an exploratory level, the prospects towards gender equality.
