본 연구는 청소년의 동기체계와 지각된 어머니의 통제가 사회불안에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 및 경기도에 소재한 중학교와 고등학교에 재학 중인 남녀 청소년을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였으며 807명의 자료가 최종 분석에 사용되었다. 먼저 동기체계의 ‘행동억제’와 ‘행동활성화’ 체계의 수준, 부모 통제의 2가지 하위 요인인 지각된 어머니의 ‘심리적 통제’와 ‘행동통제’의 수준, 그리고 사회불안의 일반적 경향과 성별에 따른 차이를 살펴보았다. 그리고 청소년의 사회불안에 상반되는 영향을 미칠 수 있는 2가지 동기체계와 2가지 어머니 통제의 영향을 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 성별로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 행동억제와 어머니의 심리적 통제가 사회불안을 증가시킬 수 있다는 선행연구와 일관된 결과를 확인하였으며, 더불어 행동활성화 체계는 남녀 청소년의 사회불안을 약화시키고 부모의 행동통제는 여학생들에게 있어 사회불안을 감소시키는 역할을 한다는 점을 밝혔다. 또한 여학생의 경우에는 행동활성화 수준이 높을수록 심리적 통제의 부정적 영향이 증가하는 동기체계와 어머니 통제간의 상호작용 효과도 확인되었다. 본 연구는 성차를 고려하여 사회불안의 생물학적, 환경적 보호요인으로서 행동활성화 체계와 행동통제의 영향을 밝혔다는 의의가 있었으며 청소년기 사회불안의 예방 및 개입을 위한 자료로서 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adolescents’ motivational systems and perceived maternal control on social anxiety. Data were collected from male and female youths at middle and high school in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and 807 data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and hierarchical regression analyses. The major findings were as follow; first, we have confirmed the results consistent with the previous studies that behavior inhibition of adolescent and psychological control of mother can increase social anxiety. Second, the results showed that the system of behavior activation weakens social anxiety among adolescents and that parental behavior control plays a role in reducing social anxiety in female students. Third, in the case of females, the interaction effects between maternal control and the motivational system, which increase the negative effects of psychological control as the level of behavior activation increased, were also identified. This study revealed the effects of behavioral activation and behavioral control on social anxiety in light of gender differences as biological and environmental protective factors. It is expected to be used as data for the prevention and intervention of social anxiety in adolescence.
