본 연구는 개별 피험자 연구에서 피험자를 기술하기 위한 지침에 관한 구체적 기준 제시의 필요성을 밝히고 있다. 피험자에 대한 정확하고 충분한 정보는 연구의 외적 타당도를 높여주며, 연구의 평가를 용이하게 하고, 현장에서 중재를 적용하는 자에게 가능성 있는 대상을 찾아 적용하게 할 가능성을 높여준다. 본 연구에서는 피험자에 대한 기술에서 다음 네 가지 정보를 포함할 것을 제안했다: 1) 피험자 지위 상태, 2) 피험자 선정 기준과 절차, 3) 피험자 기초선 수준, 4) 피험자의 기초선 수행 변화에 영향을 주는 특별 요인. 또한, 본 연구에서는 1986년부터 2003년까지 ‘정서·행동 장애연구’에 발표된 개별 피험자 연구의 피험자에 대한 기술 내용의 적절성을 분석하여, 개별 피험자 연구에서 피험자에 대한 기술을 위한 구체적인 사항을 제시했다.
Abstract
This study emphasizes the need of certain criteria for describing the subjects in single subject research. Precise and complete descriptions of subjects will help researchers to replicate the study and practitioners to implement the investigation. It is suggested that researchers describe their subjects consistently within at least the four following categories: 1) the subject's status variables, 2) the subject selection criteria, 3) the baseline condition, and 4) the special variables that influence baseline performance. The studies of Journal of Emotional & Behavioral Disorders from 1986 to 2003 were analyzed according to the suggested four categories. The results shows the apparent inconsistency of subject descriptions. The specific guidelines for the subjects description of single subject research were suggested.
