초등학교 통합학급 정신지체 학생을 위한 교사의 적합화

The instructional adaptations of regular class teachers for students with mental retardation in elementary schools

이 연구는 정신지체 학생이 통합된 초등학교 학급에서 정신지체 학생의 수업 참여를 위해서 통합학급 교사들이 어떻게 수업을 적합화하고 있는지를 파악하여 통합학급 수업을 이해하고 개선방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 교수 환경, 교수 내용, 교수 방법, 평가, 협력의 범주로 나누고 89명의 초등학교 통합학급 교사를 대상으로 교수적합화 실제를 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 대다수의 교사는 교수 환경을 적절히 적합화하고 있었으나 정신지체 학생에게 낮은 기대수준을 설정하고 동등한 학급 구성원으로 받아들이지 않는 경향을 보였다. 둘째, 대다수 교사는 전형적/일상적 적합화 수준에 머물고 있었고, 교수 내용을 단순히 수준만 낮추어 제공하는 경우가 많았다. 셋째, 대다수 교사는 정신지체 학생의 수업 참여를 위해 교수 방법을 적합화하고 있었으며, 주로 조절 기제를 사용하고 있었다. 넷째, 평가의 경우 적합화하는 경우와 그렇지 않은 경우가 비슷한 수준이었으며 다소 비일관적인 결과가 제시되었다. 다섯째, 통합학급 교사는 수업과 평가에서 주체이기보다 조력자의 역할을 선호하고 있었다. 여섯째, 통합학급 교사와 부모는 비교적 원활하게 정보를 교류하고 있었으나 부모에 대한 학교 차원의 교육은 미비했다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate regular class teachers' adaptation practices on instruction including the environments, contents, and methods, evaluational contents and methods, and collaboration with special class teachers or parents. 89 teachers in the inclusive elementary school completed questionnaires eliciting their practice on instruction adaptations for students with mental retardation. Primary findings included: (a) Most teachers appropriately adapted instructional environments for students with mental retardation. But, some teachers established low expectation for academic performance of students with mental retardation. (b) Teachers preferred typical/routine adaptations to specialized/substantial adaptations for instructional content. (c) Most teachers accommodated instructional methods and procedures. (d) Teachers inconsistently responded to questions on evaluational adaptations for students with mental retardation. Some teachers have evaluated students with mental retardation, the others have not evaluated them. (e) Most regular class teachers didn't tend to take the responsibility of instruction and evaluation for students with mental retardation. (f) Parents of students with mental retardation exchanged information for schooling with regular class teachers.
