한국어 학습자의 학습양식에 대한 연구 - 대한민국 정부초청대학원장학생을 중심으로 -

한국어를 배우는 학습자들 중에는 쓰기나 읽기를 좋아하지만 말하기나 듣기 활용을 싫어하는 사람도 있으며, 어휘나 문법을 교사가 자세 하게 설명해 주기를 원하는 학습자도 있으며, 개별 학습활동을 선호하는 학습자도 있으며 반대로 조별 학습활동을 선호하는 학습자도 있다. 이렇게 다양한 모습으로 학습하는 모습이 학습양식이다. 본 연구에서는 인지적 요인 중에서 외국인 한국어 학습자들이 한국어 학습에 활용하는 학습양식에 중심을 두고 분석을 진행했다. 연구방법은 언어 교육을 연구하는 전문가인 Willing(1998)이 개발한 설문지를 활용하여 통계 분석하는 양적 연구방법을 사용했다. 설문조사는 2017년 6월에 국내 대학부설 언어교육원에서 한국어를 배우는 한국정부초청 대학원 장학생 47명을 대상으로 진행되었다. 먼저 학습양식에 대한 이론적 배경과 선행 연구를 검토하였으며, 설문조사를 통해 취합된 결과값과 한국어능력시험의 성적을 비교하여 학습양식이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 파악했다. 그 결과 학습양식은 한국어능력시험 성적과 직접적인 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 한국어 학습자의 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위해서는 학습양식뿐만 아니라 다른 변인들도 복합적으로 분석되고 고려되어야 한다는 것을 보여준다.
Abstract
Some Korean-language learners like writing and reading but dislike speaking and listening, whereas others prefer their teachers to give detailed explanations on vocabulary or grammar. On the other hand, some learners prefer individual or group learning activities. The aforementioned various learning phenomena are understood as learning styles. With the aim of analyzing learning styles of foreign Korean-language learners, this study conducted a quantitative analysis using data collected from a survey questionnaire developed by the language teaching expert, Willing (1998). The survey was conducted on 47 recipients of the Korean Government Postgraduate Scholarship, who were learning Korean at a language training center in a Korean university in June 2017. The researcher reviewed the theoretical background and previous research works, and then examined the correlation between the learning styles and scores of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK). The analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between them. This result strongly suggests that not only the learning styles but also other learning factors should be analyzed and considered to understand the factors that may influence the academic achievements of Korean language learners.
