세계 최대 수출입국인 중국의 무역패턴을 규명하고 그에 따른 무역리스크 요인을 살피는 것은 앞으로의 세계 경제 변화, 특히 무역시장의 판도 변화를 어느 정도 파악해 볼 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 더욱이 중국의 경제성장 둔화로 세계 경제 위축과 국제무역구조 변화 가능성이 커지고 있는 근자의 상황을 고려할 때 중국의 무역패턴 판별은 앞으로의 대중국 수출입정책과 무역업자의 수출전략 수립 시 중요한 점검사안이다. 이러한 점에서 이 연구는 중국의 무역패턴을 중심으로 무역리스크 요인을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1998년부터 2014년까지 17년간 중국 15대 교역국의 무역패널 자료를 이용해 중력모형(Gravity Model)으로 중국의 무역패턴과 함께 무역비용, 환율 등의 변화가 수출입액에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 중국과 무역상대국의 경제규모는 중국 무역규모에 통계적으로 매우 유의미한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 교역거래국과의 거리는 여타 국가의 경우와 마찬가지로 무역규모에 부(-)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나, 중국의 무역패턴 역시 중력모형이 적용됨을 보였다. 또한, 운송비, 보험료 등 무역비용은 무역규모에 부(-)의 효과를 미쳐 무역저해요인으로 작용함을 확인하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the trade patterns of China and to measure the determinants of bilateral trade between China and its top 15 trading partners, in the period of 1989∼2014 through the gravity model. I conducted empirical analyses using SUR (Seemingly Unrelated Regression), static panel analysis model (fixed effect model, random effect model) and Arellano-Bond linear dynamic panel-data estimation, with panel data from 15 countries (United States, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Germany, Netherlands, Vietnam, United Kingdom, India, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia). There are several important findings. Firstly, as expected, the Chinese trade pattern showed consistency with the theory of the gravity model. Secondly, the amount of trade is positively and significantly related to the GDP. The results show that GDP is a trade promotion factor. Thirdly, like with other counties, geographical distance has a negative coefficient as a country's trade tends to decrease as the distance between country and the trade partner increases. Lastly, a number of variables such as bilateral trade costs are determinants of trade flows. However, these are affecting volumes of trade negatively. Trade costs, particularly, have a negative and significant effect on both export and import.
