성경관의 비교 연구: 존 칼빈, 찰스 하지, 존 그레스앰 메이첸을 중심으로

칼빈의 성경론과 찰스 하지와 존 그레스앰 메이첸과 같은 구 프린스턴 신학자들의 성경론은 성경무오, 완전축자영감설, 유기적 영감설을 주장하고 성경의 자증과 성령의 내증의 관계에 있어서 같은 주장을 했기 때문에 그들의성경관은 본질적으로 같다고 할 수 있다. 지금까지 한국장로교회에 큰 영향을 끼친 구 프린스턴 신학의 마지막 신학자인 메이첸의 성경관은 거의 다루어지지 않았다. 그러므로 필자는 메이첸과찰스 하지의 성경론을 통해 구 프린스턴 신학을 칼빈의 신학과 성경론의 관점에서 비교 고찰하였다. 논지는 그들의 성경론이 본질적으로 동일하며 구 프린스턴 신학자들이 성경론에 있어서 칼빈의 신학을 벗어나지 않았다는 것이다. 구 프린스턴 신학자들은 완전축자영감설을 주장했는데 신정통주의자들은그것을 기계적 영감설이라고 하고, “적응”의 개념을 통해서 성령이 성경을기록한 저자들의 인간적 요소를 사용한 것을 인정하면 그것은 성경의 유오를 함의한다고 하였다. 그러나 이것은 잘못된 생각이다. 성령이 성경 기록자들의 인간적 요소를 사용했어도 성령의 초자연적 영감을 통하여 그들이 오류를 범하지 않도록 보호했다고 믿는 것이 유기적 영감이다. 또한 성경의 자증과 성령의 내증의 관계는 칼빈의 성경관에 있어 중요한문제로서 칼빈은 성경의 자증과 성령의 내증의 통일성과 불가분리성을 주장했다. 이것은 칼빈이 성경관에 끼친 큰 공헌이다.
Abstract
The doctrine of Scripture of Old Princeton theologians has been attacked many times. However, their doctrine is accurate and the same as that of Calvin. Especially, neoorthodox theologians have severely attacked Old Princeton theologians’ doctrine of Scripture, for example, their doctrine of plenary verbal inspiration. They argued that Princetonians held to mecanic view of inspiration. But that is not true. They held to organic view of inspiration. Therefore, Scripture is the word of God and without error. Biblical inerrancy comes from this doctrine. The relation between self-attestation of Scripture and the internal testimony of the Holy Spirit is inseparable and united. Thus, Scripture has also its intrinsic authority. Essentially, Calvin’s doctrine of Scripture is the same as that of the Old Princeton theologians such as Charles Hodge, John Gresham Machen.
