한국 선교 단체의 국제화에 대한 지도자들의 역할: 바울선교회와 GP 선교회의 사례 연구

한국 자생 선교 단체들 가운데에는 서구 선교 단체들처럼 인적 자원의 국제화 과정을 시작하였다. 이 과정에 있어 한국 선교 단체들이 국제화되는 과정에서 지도자들의 역할은 무엇이었는가? 한국 교회의 국제화 현상에 있어 지도자의 역할에 대하여 충분한 논의가 없었다는 점에서 이 연구의 질문은 유의미하다. 이 연구는 두 단체를 중심으로 국제화 과정에서 지도자의 역할에대한 현상을 관찰하였다. 비한국인 선교사의 숫자가 두드러지게 많은 바울선교회와 GP선교회의 국제화에 대한 지도자들의 역할은 무엇인가? 이것을위해 먼저 서구 단체의 국제화 과정에서의 지도자의 역할을 로즈마리 알디스와 다나 다운즈와 마틴 쇼주니어의 연구를 통해 파악하고자 한다. 그런 뒤에, 바울 선교회와 GP 선교회에 대한 개괄적 이해와 함께 국제화 과정을 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고, 본 연구의 질문에 대한 답과 함께 선교적 함의를 논하고자 한다. 바울선교회와 GP 선교회의지도자들은 자신이속한단체의국제화과정에큰 역할을 하였다. 바울선교회의 국제화 과정에서 이동휘 목사의 역할은 매우중요했으며, 미국이사회와 선임 지도자들의 역할이 GP 선교회의 국제화에 큰영향을 미쳤음을 발견하였다 . 이 연구는 다음과 같은 세 가지 선교적 함의를제시하였다. 첫째, 선교 단체들이 국제화의 비전을 가지고 실천하는 데 있어서지도자들의 역할이 중요하다. 둘째, 선교단체들의 국제화를 위한 종합적이고구체적인 개념과 계획과 정책들이 필요하고, 이것을 지도자가 제시해야 한다. 셋째, 지도자는 단체의 국제화 대신 협력 혹은 독자 사역을 대안으로 고려하는 것도 필요하다. 한국 자생 선교 단체들뿐 아니라 다수 세계의 선교단체들에게 이 함의들은 직접적 적용은 아니더라도 간접적 적용을 고려할 만하다고 하겠다.
Abstract
Some Korean indigenous mission organizations have internationalizedtheir personnel, just like some Western mission agencies have done inthe past. Out of many issues around it, this study asks what the roles ofKorean mission leaders in the internationalizing process of their organizationsand the missiological implications of it and made an attempt to answer tothis question?Interestingly, there has been very limited discussion on the issue ofthe internationalization of Korea mission organizations, which makes thisstudy unique. What are the roles of the leaders of the Paul MissionInternational and Global Partners in the internationalizing process of theirorganizations? To appropriate the process more effectively, I first paidattention to the internationalizing process of some Western organizations,based on some in-depth studies done by Western scholars. I providedwith a brief description of the two agencies and their internationalizingprocess. which showed the contribution of their leaders in the subject. Dongwhe Lee played a pivotal role not only in founding the organizationbut also in initiating the internationalizing process of the organizationthat he founded. the US board and senior leaders of Global Partnersplayed a significant role in the internationalization of their organization. This study have suggested three missiological implications. First,Leaders play a key role in conceiving and conveying the vision ofinternationalization of mission agencies. Secondly, leaders need to provide acomplete and concrete understanding, plan and policy for internationalization. Lastly, leaders may choose to consider alternative ways such as partnershipor independent work instead of internationalization.
