본 논문은 폴 리쾨르(Paul Ricoeur, 1913-2005)의 사회 구원론을 다룬다. 그는 그리스도의 구속의 은총이 개인의 신앙에만 한정되는 것이 아니라 일반 사 회의 제도에까지 확대되어야 한다고 주장한다. 이런 사상은 하나님의 형상 (imago Dei)’에 대한 해석과 연관이 있는데, 리쾨르는 하나님의 형상으로 지 어진 인간은 ‘개인적이고 공동체적(individuel et collectif)’인 존재라고 해석한 다. 다시 말해 개인과 사회는 서로 분리된 개체가 아니라 서로 유기적으로 연결된 하나의 공동체라는 것이다. 그래서 구원의 차원에서도 개인의 구원 과 사회 구원은 분리할 수 없다. 이런 의미에서 그리스도인은 개인적 구원에 만 자족할 것이 아니라 사회 공동체에 대한 책임을 갖고 사회 구원을 위해 적극적으로 참여해야 한다. 한편, 리쾨르에 따르면 하나님의 형상으로서의 인간을 ‘개인적이고 공동체 적’인간으로 보는 해석은 구원론에 뿐만 아니라 죄론에도 적용되어야 한다. 죄 또한 개인적이고 집단적이라는 이중적 개념을 갖기 때문이다. 인간의 죄 는 개인적인 차원에서 고려될 수 있지만 넓은 의미에서 사회적 구조와 제도 와맞물려있다. 사회개혁과구원을위해서는먼저사회의각집단적인영 역에서 나타나는 집단적 악에 대한 바른 이해와 이에 대한 비판이 필요할 것이다. 리쾨르는 일반 사회를 경제, 정치, 문화의 영역으로 구분하고 이 제 도권 사회 속에서 만연되어 있는 집단적인 악이 무엇인지 밝히고 비판한다. 그리고 정의와 사랑의 변증법을 통해서 사회 속에서 구속의 원리인 사랑이 어떻게 사회 제도에 적용되어야 하는지 설명한다. 그는 사회 구원론은 세상 의 제도 속에서 나타나야 하는 구속의 징표(signe)를 나타내며 사회 공동체의 구원에 대한 기독교인의 책임에 대해 상기시킨다.
Abstract
This article examines Paul Ricœur’s view on the salvation of society. Ricœur emphasises the need to recognise the grace of redemption in the institutions of society, not only at an individual level. For Ricœur, who considers man as simultaneously an individual and a collective being, hu- mans are social creatures who require close relationships with each other and with their environment. Ricœur concludes that salvation at the in- dividual and collective levels are inseparable. A Christian cannot be satisfied by the quest for his personal salvation, but must take part and responsibility in the salvation of society. However, the concept of man as both an individual and a collective being invokes the duality, personal and collective, of sin and likewise of grace. We must be conscious of the form and the depth of our collective evil, in order to understand the salvation of society. Ricœur examines and analy- ses the collective evil in our social institutions, in the three perspectives of politics, economics and culture. He then develops the principle of the redemption of society, dialectically between justice, based on the logic of equivalence, and love based on the principle of excess. Ricœur shows us the signs of redemption in our social institutions and reminds us, as Christians, of our responsibility in the collective salvation of society.
