본 논문은 폴 리쾨르 선물경제이론의 초기사상 연구를 통해 리쾨르 철학에 나타난 사랑과 정의의 변증법, 혹은 종교와 철학의 변증법을 이해하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 90년대 출판된 두 저서, 강의 3과 사랑과 정의에 나타난 선물경제 개념과 사랑과 정의 이론을 차례로 살펴본다. 두 책 모두 예수의 광야설교에나타나는 황금률과 원수사랑명령의 이율배반을 새롭게 해석하려고 하는데, 이 과정에서 리쾨르의 선물경제 개념은 마르셀 모스가 정의한 선물의 호혜적 교환 차원에서 벗어나, 선물의 ‘거저 줌’ 차원으로 전환된다. 리쾨르에 의하면 이러한 거저 줌으로서의 선물경제는 호혜성에 기초한 정의윤리가 배려하지 못하는 사회적 약자들의 몫을 사랑명령을 통해 찾게 함으로써 정의윤리를 보완하는 데에 이바지한다.
Abstract
This article seeks to understand the dialectic of love and justice or of religion and philosophy through the early history of Ricoeur’s theory of gift economy. For this, the article examines two of Paul Ricoeur’s works published in the 1990s : Lecture 3 and Love and Justice. Both works try to interpret the antinomy between the “golden rule” and the command of sovereign love in Jesus’s sermon in the wilderness. Here, Ricoeur’s concept of gift economy, which Marcel Mauss proposed to explain the reciprocity of gift, proceeds to the different dimension of gift giving without the expectation of receiving anything in return. Ricoeur’s concept of gift economy justifies a share for the social week, who does have any right for the distribution of social riches from the point of view of utilitarianism. It is important for the philosopher that justice realizes love and love expands justice.
