한국 최초의 소래교회 설립 배경과 연도 그리고 그 미친 영향에 대한 고찰

이 논문은 소래교회의 설립 배경과 연도를 주요한 자료들과 저술들을 고찰하고 평가하면서 언제 세워졌는지를 밝히고, 또한 소래교회가 발전해 나가는 과정은 한국 개신교회가 태동되고 성장하며 지역적으로 널리 확산되어가는 기반과 핵심적인 위치에 있었으며, 많은 교회사가들이 소래교회를 왜한국교회의 요람이라고 명명했는지를 규명하고자 한다. 이러한 과정에서 만주에서 성경번역에 참여한 한인 청년들이 권서로 활동하면서 자생적으로 소래에 교회를 설립하고, 성경중심적인 신앙의 토대를 조성하고, 그 후에 내한하는 선교사들과 동역하면서, 한 지역에서 시작된 신앙운동이 어떻게 한반도 전체로 확산되었는지 고찰하고자 한다. 소래교회는 성경중심적인 신앙에 뿌리를 둔 자립적인 교회의 특성을 초기부터 형성해 갔으며, 이러한 특성은 네비우스 선교방법을 철저하게 시행함으로 더욱 강화되어 한국장로교회의 중요한 특성으로 자리 잡게 되었다. 이러한 특성은 미북장로교 재령선교부와 황해노회가 같이 협력하여 복음전도와 해외 선교를 지향할 수 있는 영적 원동력을 제공했고, 한국장로교회가 독노회와 총회를 결성하면서도 선교적 교회로 나아가도록 견인하였다. 또한 소래교회는 사회적 차원의 많은 봉사와 수고를 아끼지 않는 교회로 발돋움하면서 한국교회의 요람일 뿐 아니라, 본받아야 할 모델이 되기도 했다. 이러한 역사적 고찰을 통해 현재 위기에 처해 있는 교회들이 과거를 되돌아보면서 미래로 나아갈 수 있는 역사적인 통찰력과 역동성을 발견할 수 있다고 확신한다.
Abstract
This paper examines and evaluates the background and year of the establishment of the Sorae Church while examining and evaluating major materials and writings on this church. In addition, we will trace how the process of the development of the Sorae Church was initiated, grown, and spread widely in this region and Whanghae province. And also, we will try to answer why Sorae Church was named “the cradle of the Korean church.” In this process, young Koreans who participated in Bible translation in Manchuria acted as colporteurs, voluntarily contributing to the establishment of this church. It started in a region, laying the foundation for a Bible-centered faith, and then working with missionaries who came to Korea, we would like to consider how the faith movement that began in one region can spread throughout the Korean Peninsula. Sorae Church has formed the characteristics of an independent church rooted in Bible-centered beliefs from the beginning, and these characteristics were further strengthened by thorough implementation of the Nevius mission method and became an important characteristic of the Presbyterian Church in Korea. This characteristic is that American Presbyterian missionaries and pastors of Whanghae province worked together, providing a great spiritual driving force for evangelism and missionary work abroad. In addition, Sorae Church has emerged as a church that does not spare much service and effort at the social level. In this sense, Sorae Church was not only the cradle of the Korean church, but also a model to emulate. Through these historical considerations, churches in crisis now, looking back on the past, we will be confident of discovering historical insights and dynamics to move forward into the future.
