Abstract

This study attempted to investigate the basic movement of traditional Korean dance in relation to the diversity of children's inner expression using it. As a result, the following results were obtained: 1. Creative elements such as dance of self-expression, dance of improvisation, dance of respect for naturalness, dance of yin-yang coordination present the infinitive possibility of children's physical expressiveness and mental expressiveness. 2. The movements composed of the arm motions of traditional Korean dance comprise the motional elements of tying, coordinating and untying and can lead children to exhibit inventiveness in a sense of rhythm, expressive ability, spatial sense, creativity and the like. 3. The movement composed of the leg motions of traditional dance shows such functional aspects as walking, jumping or leaping, turning and the like diverse lines, step-taking walking methods and the like and is excellent in its creativity in a self-confidence, spontaneity, experience in mirth and elegance, diverse moving lines and the like. If a little more active effect is to be expected about the children's creativity based on the above study results, it would be necessary to make harmonious use of Korean dance movements and western basic dance techniques in relation to the basic walking method of traditional Korean dance. This will be recognised as the most proper method of developing children's creativity without losing their future-oriented and realistic susceptibility. Accordingly, multifarious research and development of the application of traditional Korean dance is valuable in allowing children to exhibit their inner creativity suitably to the spirit of the times as well as in instilling our national spirit into the mind of children, our future hope.
