생체학의 주제와 방법

이 논문은 토마스 하나(Thomas Hanna)의 생체학(Somatics)에 대한 이해 및 비평과 함께 체육철학 연구에 대한 시사 탐색을 의도하였다. 이를 위하여 하나의 「생체학의 영역(The Field of Somatics)」과 「생체학은 무엇인가(What is Somatics?)」을 분석하여 생체학의 배경, 주제, 방법을 정리하고 해석하여 보았다. 이 논문의 내용 및 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 하나의 생체학은 19세기 엄격한 형식의 체조를 거부한 신체-기반의 실천 및 연구의 후예로서 다윈의 진화론을 토대로 삼고 있으며 실존현상학의 성향이 다분하다. 둘째, 생체학의 주제이자 대상인 생체는 환경과의 상호작용 속에서 적응하는 살아있는 유기체, 인간에 있어서는 의식과 신체의 통합 속에서 의도적 노력에 따라 ‘감각-운동 목록’을 확장할 수 있는 동적 과정 및 상태를 의미한다. 셋째, 생체학의 방법은 감각-운동의 통합인 제1자 지각을 강조한다는 특징이 있으며, 숀(Schőn, D.)의 ‘행동 속의 반성’, 라일(Ryle, G.)의 ‘방법적 지식’, 폴라니(Polanyi, M.)의 ‘암묵적 지식’ 등과 유사하다. 아울러 그 방법은 궁극적으로 지행합일을 지향한다.
Abstract
This paper aimed to understand and rethink Thomas Hanna's Somatics and discuss its' implications on philosophy of human movement. I analysed Hanna's articles, The Field of Somatics, What is Somatics? and discussed backgrounds, subject matters, and methodology of Somatics. The main issues of this parer are following. Firstly, Somatics based on Darwinism, and has similarities with Existential phenomenology. Secondly, Soma, subject matter of Somatics, is the wholistic living body which is an unified process, or being of consciousness-body, sensory-motor. Thirdly, First-person perception is important as the method of Somatics. Somatic method, Schőn's Reflection-in-Action, Ryle's Knowing How, Polanyi's Tacit Knowing etc. can included in an epistemological category, as Schiphorst(2008) was showed in her doctoral thesis.
