몸학이 토마스 하나에 의해서 소개된 이후 무용분야에서도 몸학적 접근법을 활용한 무용연구가 최근 활발하게 수행되고 있다. 몸학적 접근법은 지금까지 제3자적 시각에서 진행된 무용연구들과는 달리 안무가이자 무용수인 연구자의 제1자적 시각에서 안무과정을 분석하고 있다는 점에서 무용발전에 기여한 바가 큰 것으로 판단된다. 그러나 자연스러운 몸에 관한 몸학적 관점이 주로 강조되고 무용표현의 본질적 특성이 간과되면서 몸학 기반 무용연구가 어떻게 실질적으로 무용연구에 기여하고 있는지에 분명하지 않는 결과가 발생하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 몸학적 관점과 무용예술 간의 본질적 차이를 움직임 과정에서의 에너지 흐름 차원에서 설명하고, 어떠한 측면에서 몸학적 접근법이 무용연구에 실질적으로 기여할 수 있을지를 분석, 제시하였다. 일반적 안무노트와는 달리 몸학적 접근법은 연구자가 미적 표현을 위한 움직임 탐구과정에서 감각운동기능의 통합을 통해 어떻게 움직임 영역을 개발, 확대하였는지, 즉 신체도식을 발전시켰는지를 제1자적 시각에서 제시한다. 무용표현을 위한 신체도식의 구축은 다른 안무가 또는 무용수들이 자신만의 무용표현을 위한 신체도식 구축하는데 중요한 참고자료로 활용될 수 있다. 따라서 몸학 기반 무용연구에서는 안무과정에서 감각운동시스템에 대한 의식적 자각을 통해 무용표현을 위한 신체도식을 어떻게 획득, 발전시켰는지에 보다 중점을 두고 연구가 수행될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Since Thomas Hanna advocated Somatics and somatic education, a somatic approach has been adopted in dance research recently. A somatic approach analyzes choreographic processes in the first-person perspective, not in the third-person perspective, so that it may contribute to the development in dance, theoretically and technically. However, it seems that a somatic approach in dance research has largely emphasized natural soma in the somatic view, and overlooked the essential characteristics of dance. The aim of this study is to analyze the difference between a somatic approach and the characteristics of dance art in terms of the energy flow in movement, and discuss the practical contribution of a somatic approach to dance research. Using a somatic approach, a researcher is able to provide a first-person view on how to develop and expand the realm of movement through the functional integration of the sensor-motor system in the movement study. Therefore it is necessary in a somatic approach to put an emphasis on how to develop body schema in the choreographic process through the awareness of the sensor-motor system.
