Abstract

In this study, we will analyze the current state of the operation of traditional educational institutions such as Seowon and Hyanggyo, and discuss some meaningful details on how to improve traditional education programs through meetings with professors and staff who run them in these institutions. Not only do traditional educational institutions show many regional differences in the composition and diversity of traditional education programs they operate due to deviations in management and support, but they also differ in their requirements for improvement depending on the institutions. The measures for improving the operation of traditional education programs of traditional educational institutions presented in this study can be summarized as follows. First, the supply and demand of professional administrative personnel is urgently requested. In the case of traditional educational institutions, the operating body of the educational institution and the managing body of the education programs often do not match because they cannot plan or operate them with the staff in charge. It can be seen that the lack of administrative personnel is a factor that undermines the expertise of traditional education. Second, continuous training is needed for operators of traditional education programs. In particular, understanding of the development and characteristics of primary and secondary school learners who usually complete education programs is recommended. Third, for traditional education programs for youth, the need for regional collaboration in planning and operation is raised. The traditional education programs of traditional educational institutions overlap many parts with those of other traditional education programs. Therefore, it is necessary to actively consider linking the education programs to the institutions directly under the local education offices, such as the support of faculty personnel, the renting of educational places, and the sharing of programs in the planning and operation of education programs.
