Abstract

Close cooperation between duty-free shops, which act as buyers in the duty-free industry, and brands, which are suppliers of goods, has become an essential component of growth. From a buyer-supplier perspective, the analysis of the duty-free industry is an important challenge considering the importance of duty-free shops and brand interdependence and cooperation, but little research has been done from this perspective. Thus, this study tries to verify how the coercive/non-coercive power exerted by duty-free shops affects brand's relationship commitment in the buyer-supplier relationship, Furthermore, we seek to analyze the moderating effect of brand organizational support in this relationship. The results show that duty-free shops’ noncoercive power (expertise, legitimacy, reference) has a positive impact on brand relationship commitment. Conversely , coercive and reword power did not show a significant relationship. Also, the results show that perceived organizational support has a moderating effect only in relation to coercion and relationship commitment. This study contributes to expanding the scope of supply chain research by analyzing the relationship between duty-free shops and brands in terms of power, and provides practitioners with implications for duty-free shop operations.
