『열반경』에서 일천제(一闡提) 기술의 전변(轉變)에 관한 교육적 독법(讀法)

Abstract

This study aims to examine one aspect of the educational understanding of the idea of tathāgata-garbha(如來藏) in the Nirvana Sutra(涅槃經). In the Nirvana Sutra, the discussion on the ‘All living things have Buddha's nature(一切衆生悉有佛性)’. is based on the special human group called Icchantika(一闡提). However, Icchantika is described in different forms even in the same scriptures, and the possibility of religious salvation is also described differently. Therefore, Buddhist researchers argue that this is an ideological contradiction. However, this study, which presupposes educational understanding, judges that such ideological contradictions are creating excellent educational implications. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the following matters on the premise of educational understanding of the Nirvana Sutra. First, we review the way of understanding Buddhism in the early days. Second, the meaning and substance of Icchantika are reviewed, and the translation of the Nirvana Sutra of heat and the process of imports from China are identified. Third, we examine different statements of the Nirvana Sutra about Icchantika. Finally, I will discuss some meaningful educational implications raised through the preceding matters, and briefly mention the direction of subsequent research.
