초록

칼빈의 섭리론은 두 가지 주요 관점이 있는데 하나는 하나님의 섭리의 내재적 방식에 대한 강조이고 다른 하나는 섭리의 초월적 근거로서 하나님의 감추신 결의에 대한 강조이다. 섭리의 내재적 방식은 하나님께서 창조하신 만물을 지극히 개별적으로 세심하게 다스리신다는 것에 대한 강조이고 초월적 근거는 만사가 그의 뜻에 따라 일어나는데 특별히 우리 눈에 그 원인과 이유가 가려진 우연적 사건들의 근거도 하나님의 숨은 뜻에 따라 일어난다는 강조이다. 그러나 궁극적으로 칼빈의 섭리론의 강조점은 성도들을 향한 하나님 아버지의 특별하신 보살피심에 놓이면서 이 교리는 평안과 위로의 근원이 되는 교리이며 모든 일이 하나님 아버지의 선의에 근거하여 일어난다는 전폭적인 신뢰를 가르침으로 성도들이 풍부하나 역경에 처하나 항상 하나님께 감사하고 의지하도록 촉구하는 가르침이다.

Abstract

This Paper presents an interpretation of Calvin`s doctrine of Providence through close examination on the primary sources as well as the secondary materials. The thesis is that Calvin`s doctrine of providence has two poles of stress. One is the immanent mode of providence expressed in such a key concept as “praesenti Dei manu,” the present hand of God. Calvin emphasizes that God controls everything in such a very individual and particular way that it can be characterized to be “a meticulous providence.” Even though he acknowledges general providence, the major hiatus falls on particular providence. The other pole is the transcendent root or basis of providence expressed in such concept as “occulto Dei concilio,” namely the secret counsel of God. This is the ultimate ground of every accidental event that we cannot understand its cause or purpose. However, Calvin emphasizes most of all that the whole purpose of God`s providence is to show His special Fatherly care for the saints. This is why God`s people should always be thankful and prayerful to God no matter what happens. This doctrine is a source of solace and comfort for the church on which God`s vigilant and protective attentions constantly focuses.
