웨슬리 감리교의 구원의 확신 이해에 대한 개혁주의 언약신학적 평가

기독교인으로서 자신의 최종구원에 대한 확신을 갖는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이 점에 대한 장로교(Presbyterian)와 감리교(Methodism)의 가르침은 사뭇 다르다. 장로교(Presbyterian)는 신자의 최종구원의 확신의 근거를 숨겨진 하나님의 뜻으로서 무조건적이고 불변하는 절대주권적인 뜻인 예정에서 찾는 반면, 감리교는 나타난 하나님의 뜻으로서 조건적이고 가변적이고 상대적인 뜻인 복음에 인간이 자유의지로 협력함으로 이루어지는 완전성화에서 찾고 있다. 그러나 장로교 신자들에게 있어서 문제는 하나님 안에 숨겨진 하나님의 절대주권적인 예정은 인간이 알 수 없다는 데 있으며 따라서 칼빈주의 장로교신자는 자신이 선택되었는지를 알 수 없다. 한편 웨슬리 감리교 신자들에게 문제는 완전성화가 복음에 협력하는 인간의 자유의지의 행위의 결과에 달려 있음으로 감리교 신자는 자신이 완전성화에 도달할 자신을 가지기가 어렵다. 본 논문은 구원의 확신의 문제에 대한 빛을 비춰주는 개혁주의 언약신학의 관점에서 특별히 감리교의 구원의 확신에 대한 이해를 평가해 보고자 하는 것이다.
Abstract
For the christians it has a vital impotance to have an assurance of one’s final salvation. Concerning the assurance of salvation, the doctrines of Presbyterian and of Methodism are quite different. Presbyterian seeks the foundation for its teaching of the assurance of final salvation from the God’s hidden will of predestination(election) of which the character is unconditional, unchangeable and absolute. On the contrary Methodism seeks it from the God’s revealed will of Gospel of which the character is conditional, changeable and relative. For the Presbyterian believers, they face a difficulty in having the assurance of their final salvation because they can not assure whether they are the elect or not, which God only knows. For the Methodist believers, it is the problem to have the assurance of their final salvation because they can not have a conviction whether they actually can reach the full sanctification during their present life as the result of their own act by free will. This article has the aim to evaluate the Methodist teaching of the assurance of final salvation from the perspective of Reformed covenant theology.
