Regarding to the founding of the later Yan, there are still several controversies in the academic circles today. First, was the later Yan founded in 384 A.D.? Second, Murong Chui always carried the banner of anti the former Qin and completed the “Revitalization of the former Yan”? Third, was the later Yan founded by inheriting the former Yan's orthodoxy? In 384 A.D. Murong Chui proclaimed himself as the DaJiangJun, the DaDuDu, the king of Yan, and established the Murong regime which centered around the king of Yan's government. At that time, the Murong regime had no power base, no king's guard troops, no vast territory, and no majority of the people. Therefore, I believe that this is not a feudal dynasty. But in 386 A.D. when Murong Chui ascended to the throne of Yan emperor, Zhongshan has become the capital. At the same time, he appointed Murong De as the DuDuZhongWaiZhuJunShi to command the dynasty army, and appointed local officials to control the territory. Therefore, this year was the time of the founding of the later Yan. Contrary to the view of many scholars, I believe that Murong Chui always adhered to the “etiquette of monarch and minister” towards the former Qin and Fu Jian. Murong Chui, who was close to the former Qin and Fu Jian, wanted to complete the “Revitalization of the former Yan”. Finally, he founded the later Yan. After conducting to research, I have found that the later Yan didn't inherit the former Yan's orthodox. This is because Murong Wei, who has been the former Yan's emperor, handed over the former Yan's orthodoxy to Murong Hong and Murong Chong. At the same time, Murong Chong ascended to the throne of Yan emperor after Murong Wei's death. So, at that time, Murong Chui was unable to grasp the former Yan's orthodoxy. However, after Murong Chong was killed, Murong Yong became the western Yan emperor, promoted the Murong Xianbei's prosperity. This ultimately provided to Murong Chui with the opportunity to master her orthodox status and authority. Murong Chui accepted Murong De's opinion and decided to conquer the western Yan. After the western Yan was conquered, the later Yan has inherited the former Yan's orthodoxy, became the legitimate dynasty of her. It happened in August 394 A.D.
