이 논문은 기독교적 관점에서 윤리학의 두 핵심 개념이라고 할 수 있는 정의와 아가페의 관계를 자세히 살펴보고 그 관계를 재설정하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 우선 정의 개념이 시대에 따라 어떻게 변화되어 왔는지를 간단히 살펴보고 에로스와 아가페의 비교를 통해 기독교에서 말하는 사랑 개념을 분석한다. 다음으로 정의를 설명하는 방식을 바탕으로 기존의 윤리학을 좋음과 옳음이라는 두 가지 범주로 나누어 설명한 후 아가페에 대한 안더스 니그렌의 입장을 참조하여 아가페 윤리학은 이 범주를 넘어서는 새로운 윤리학적 입장일 수 있음을 밝힌다. 마지막으로 사랑과 정의 사이의 긴장관계에 대한 아가페 윤리학의 입장과 그에 대한 월터스토프의 견해를 비판적으로 고찰한다. 월터스토프는 아가페 윤리학을 자신만의 배려 아가페주의로 재정의하고 옳음을 중심으로 정의를 설명하는 두 번째 범주 안에 귀속시킴으로써 정의와 아가페의 양립가능성을 옹호한다. 하지만 필자는 아가페 윤리학이 이 범주를 넘어서기에 정의와 아가페가 충돌할 때 아가페를 우선시해야함을 주장한다.
Abstract
This thesis aims to take a closer look at the relationship between justice and agape, which are two key concepts in Christian ethics, and to reestablish their relationship. The first chapter briefly examines how the concept of justice has changed over time and analyzes the Christian concept of love (agape) through a comparison with eros. In the second chapter, based on the way justice is explained, the ethics will be divided into two categories: good-based and right-based, and then Anders Nygren’s position on agape is discussed to show that agape-based ethics can be a new ethical position that goes beyond these categories. The third chapter critically examines Wolterstorff’s view on the tension between agape and justice. Wolterstorff defends the compatibility of justice and agape by redefining agape ethics as his own version of care-agapism and placing it within a second category which is the right-based ethics However, I will argue that agape-based ethics goes beyond this category and that agape should take precedence when justice and agape are incompatible.
