Abstract

Liner Shipping networks are exposed to a variety of risks, which can also lead to port disruptions. Accordingly, risk management from a network perspective is required by port stakeholders. We construct the Liner Shipping network based on the service routes of the top 15 global liner shipping companies. We model the disruption propagation of the shipping network through the agent-based model and measured the ports’ vulnerability from a network perspective. Thus, the inverted U-shaped and U-shaped relationship between centrality (Degree, Closeness, Betweenness) and the vulnerability of ports was revealed. Therefore, we suggest that the shipping network structure is complex. Based on the results, we suggest port risk management strategies; strategies for improving the resilience and the investment strategy of port facilities.
