형태론적 매개 변수의 이항적 발현 양상

초록

이 글은 보편 문법을 개별 문법화 하는 장치인 매개 변수가 형태론적 차원의 다양한 언어 현상에서 어떻게 작동하는지 또한 통사부와 마찬가지로 그것이 이항적으로 작동하는지 그렇지 않은지를 타갈로그어, 영어 그리고 한국어를 중심으로 밝힌다. 언뜻 보기에 핵방향과 관련하여 매우 무질서해 보여서 매개 변수가 이항적으로 작용하지 않는 것처럼 보이는 다양한 언어 자료를 살펴본다. 하지만 이는 통사론적 매개 변수와 형태론적 매개 변수가 원칙적으로 상호 독립적임과, 명백히 극성을 가지는(핵초냐 핵말이냐) 언어는 이 두 부문의 매개 변수가 상호 암시적이지만, 그렇지 않은 언어는 상호 독립적이라는 점, 그리고 매개 변수가 개별 문법으로 진행되게 하는 작용점으로서 역할을 하는 것이지 특정 개별 문법 항목을 만들어 주는 개별 규칙을 만들지 않는 점을 볼 때 형태론 핵방향 매개 변수도 역시 이항적인 특성을 가지고 있음을 논증한다. 아울러 핵 순서 매개 변수 해당 언어에서 원리적 차원에서 투사되는 것일 뿐 예외적인 언어 현상 자체에 관여하지 않는다는 점, 형태론적 핵방향의 매개 변수 작동 이후에 그 방향성에 따라 어기 범주의 선택 경향이 달라진다는 점을 고려할 때 적어도 이 세 언어에서 매개 변수의 이항성 개념은 다양한 언어 현상에 전반적으로 적용되는 유용한 가지를 지닌다.

Abstract

This study aims at clarifying the operational process of Morphological Head Order Parameter(MHOP), which applies Korean(Head Final language-HF), English(Head Middle language-HM), and Tagalog(Head First language-HF) with binary concept. I look into the various language materials which seem to be superficially manifested in a disorder fashion with related to head order that seems to be makes MHOP project to SG non-banarily in the component of morphological dimension. This study suggests that MHOP is still valid to morphological level if the conditions of MHOP be modified. The first modification one is that MHOP is independent on Syntactic Parameters in principle in language which have weak features of order(MF, English) unless the language have strong polar features such as HF(Korean), HF(Tagalog). The second one is that parameter takes only a role of "starting point of operation" between languages that means the orientation of selected element among two with which, just go to only way on appling the specific language in a whole regardless the items' features of that language. This also implicates that the other element of parameter's set simultaneously can not be applied items in internal scope. The third one is that the bases of words permit the syntactic level one(XP) in the order of morphological head if the head is final(Korean). But the bases of words can permit word level one(X0) if the head is final.
