초록

This article, based on declassified documents from South Korea and the US, analyzed why Nixon-Ford administration's military assistance toward South Korea had been changed, and what was the purpose of military assistance toward South Korea in that period. As a result, the first, the Nixon and Ford Administration changed the rule of military assistance as a foreign policy's way to manage the alliance (South Korea). Comparing Nixon and Ford administration's Doctrine, Nixon Doctrine used the military assistance toward South Korea for the withdrawal of US armed forces in Korea and the modernization of Korea armed forces. However, New Pacific Doctrine(Ford administration) restrained the military assistance toward South Korea through the maintenance of US armed forces and the modernization of Korea armed forces. The second, Ford administration didn't actively provide the military assistance and technical assistance for the Park Chung Hee administration's self-defense policy in order to restrain the alliance dilemma(the concern of entrapment).
