Abstract

This study aims at analysis the narrative structure and subject of the tales of Soldiers dying in defence of chastity in Joseon dynasty. Especially, the historical background of these Soldier’s tales were Imjinwaeran, Jungyoojaeran, Jungmyeohoran, Byeongjahoran. So these tales have the story of hard fighting and lofty dying. The narrative structure of the tales of Soldiers dying in defence of chastity is going into government service, going to war, hard fighting, dying in defence of integrity, saving dead body, awarding prize. But the narrative paragraph of dying in loyalty have many transition, that is hard fighting-dying type, refusing escape-dying type, refusing surrender-dying type. These typical structure have played a decisive role in raising stability of tradition. The subject of the tales of Soldiers dying in defence of chastity is the noble loyalty of died soldiers in defence of chastity. The people have used three method of literature. Firstly, they have made the pattern of dying soldiers in chastity. Secondly, they have point to generalization and specialization of narrative structure. Thirdly, they have made formalization of the dying process in chastity. Fourthly, they have expanded the evaluation after death. As a result of the narrative structure and subject, these soldier’s tales created the ideal image of Dying soldiers in integrity.
