Abstract
The aim of this study, on the one hand, is to compare seven kind of manuscripts of small version of Prajñāpāramitāhṛdayasūtra, and to solve out linguistic problematics which the comparison has revealed, with a successive of linguistic methodologies. Based on that, on the other hand, it attempts to make a reconstruction of the original sanskritic text and a correct semantic interpretation of Prajñāpāramitāhṛdayasūtra in com- parison with academically popularly referred versions that has been translated in several languages. The seven kind of manuscripts of small version to be compared in the present study constitute manuscript of 法隆寺 in Japan dating back to the beginning or the end of 8th century, Müller-Nanjio(1884), 中村 元(1967), Conze(1967), Vaidya(1961), Benveniste(1940) and Hsuan-tsang(玄奘)’s 唐梵翻對字音般若波羅蜜多心經(600?). The methodology used to analyse these manuscripts here is linguistic, strictly speaking, Indo-European linguistic one that is indispensable to deal with classical languages like Sanskrit, Latin, Greek. Concretely enumerated, Sandhi as a typical phonological process of Sanskrit, morphological analysis and grammatical information as well as word-formation and grammatical marker, agreement and case government in syntax, and various versions translated by Kumārajīva(鳩摩羅什 402~412) and Hsuan-tsang(648 or 649) in Chinese, by 中村 元(1967) in Japanese, and by Müller(1894) and Conze(2001) in English in semantics.
