근대 초기에 해외로 반출된 고소설의 문제

Abstract

This study aims to deal with things that became known in the course of examination on old novel or books taken out of the country at early modern times as well as several problems related to this. Many foreigners came into Korea as door of Joseon opened to foreign countries. Among them, there were many foreigners who were deeply interested in Korea in particular and collected information systematically. Such books of Korea were taken out of Korea as those foreigners returned home. Those books have been found in 139 institutions of 12 countries up to now. However, they are estimated to be housed in more locations. Up to now, such books taken out of the country have not been identified or almost no meaning has been granted on this. Only recently, such problems began to be recognized and systematic examination has been performed, under the initiative of the government. What is missing is that old novels were excluded from examination since it focused on books written in Chinese characters. It is important in that it shows circumstance why such original possessors (collectors) collected such books, or information that clarified distribution problem of old novels. Accordingly, it is required to include old novel and to carry out more detailed examination when examining the books possessed at overseas institutions. This study will examine present status and problems of old novels, and explore old novels possessed at Kyoto University, Tokyo University of Japan, Russia National University, East study research center, Cambridge University of UK and London SOAS University requiring detailed discussion in the future.
