Abstract
Although it has been a traditional appraisal that Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron is one ofthe first modern literature owing to its new form and style of novella, it is still difficult to findthe proper and enough readings of its post-medieval new point of view and much erotic representationson women’s love and sex. The Decameron, by separating the attitudes of continenceand the courtly love in the Middle Ages, and making love and sex the inseparable relation, becamea kind of threshold in the history of love. Furthermore, it is particularly significant thatthe Decameron played an important role in the writing of the Sei giornate which consists of twopornographic dialogues by Pietro Aretino. The new ethic and conception of sexuality thatBoccaccio expresses in the Decameron left deep traces in the erotic and pornographic works inthe Renaissance and early modern european culture.
