『논어』는 직계 제자들과 후기 유자들이 기록하여 편집한 책이다. 여기에는 사상가로서 또 교육자로서 공자의 면모를 잘 드러내는 말들과 행위들이 기록되어 있다. 공자는 당시 사람들과는 매우 다른 사유를 보여주었는데, 그것이 『논어』에 잘 표현되어 있다. 중세 동아시아에서는 『논어』에 대한 주석서들이 무수히 많이 쓰여졌고, 이는 근대에 이르기까지 많은 학자들과 사상가들에게 영향을 끼쳤다. 주석서들은 일종의 해석학적 이해를 꾀한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 『논어』의 말하기의 특성과 공자의 해석학적 사유에 대해서는 별다른 관심을 기울이지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 “온고이지신(溫故而知新)”과 “술이부작(述而不作)” 및 “정명(正名)” 등에 초점을 맞추어 거기에 담겨 있는 해석학적 사유를 밝히려 하였다. 공자의 말하기는 이전의 말하기에 대한 해석학적 사유로부터 나온 것이면서 동시에 새로운 말하기에 대한 해석학적 사유의 표현이기도 하다. 공자의 해석학적 사유는 이해에서 말하기에 이르기까지 철저하게 실천적이라는 것도 밝혔다. 결국, 공자의 말하기는 그 해석학적 사유를 이해함으로써 번역되고 해석되어야 한다는 것이 분명해졌고, 이는 근대 유럽의 해석학을 이해하는 데 기여할 뿐 아니라 새로운 해석학의 길을 모색하는 데에도 이바지할 것이다.
Abstract
The Analects of Confucius was compiled by his disciples and later Confucians. It contains sayings and doings of Confucius who had been an original teacher as well as an innovative thinker. Confucius had expressed quite a different view with people in those days, which had been written down and called The Analects. In East Asia in Middle Age, a great deal of commentary books on The Analects was written, and had an effect on many scholars of Middle Age and Modern Age. However, anyone hardly had been interested in the characteristics of sayings and hermeneutic thinking of Confucius. In this study, I focused on "knowing the new through realizing the old"(溫故而知新) and "just reciting and not producing"(述而不作) and "rectifying names"(正名) of sayings of Confucius in which hermeneutic thinking was connoted. Sayings of Confucius are originated from hermeneutic thinking over the old sayings and simultaneously expressed hermeneutic thinking to the new ones. Confucius's hermeneutic thinking is demonstrated to be practical thoroughly from understanding to sayings. As a result, it was made clear that sayings of Confucius have to be translated or interpreted with understanding his hermeneutic thinking, which are contributed to understand modern European hermeneutics and to find a new way of hermeneutics.
