Abstract
This article aims to explain changing Latin American women's identity throughout political arena as a part of society. It is well known that no country has completely equal gender representation. If there are meaningful conceptual changes of women's political activities, it can be considered as a deep changes of their society. Because the political area is the most kept area by men and patriarchy. In this context, I tried to find out differences and changes of traditional gender stereotype, 'marianismo', along the political changes in Latin America. For that, the meaning of 'marianismo' and it's political significancies and the behavior of women's political participation are explained. And also analysed how the political participation of women in Latin america is making changes from traditional 'marianismo' to newer 'marianismo.' During 1970s and 1980s, the concept of 'Supermadre' legitimized and applied to mobilize women's socio-political participation and to secure their support recognizing women's cultural identity in view of the state. It was a notion that legitimize women's participation in most of public activities as a maternal activities during latin american economic development process. Due to these process of participation of women, we can consider that definitions and contents of 'marianism' is changing. To explain those changes, it is suggested 'neo-marianismo' as a experimental perception.
